Word Pyramid tips and strategy
- Say the letters out loud in different orders. Your ear often finds the word before your eyes do.
- Try the new letter at the front of the word first. It is a common trick in these puzzles.
- Look for common chunks like TH, CH, ING, ER and EA among the tiles.
- Shuffle the tiles if you keep seeing the same wrong word.
- Use one hint rather than staring for a minute. Fifteen seconds is often the cheaper choice.
- Remember that any valid word with the same letters counts, not only the one we picked.
About Word Pyramid
Word Pyramid is a word building puzzle with five rungs. You start by unscrambling three letters into a word. On each rung after that you get one new letter, and you must use every letter from the word above plus the new one to make a longer word. Three letters become four, then five, six and finally seven.
The fun is in rearranging. Adding an S to the end is rarely the answer, because the puzzles are built to make you shuffle the whole word. EAR plus F can become FEAR, then add T for AFTER, add H for FATHER, and add R for FARTHER. Every puzzle is generated from our list of common words, so each rung always has an everyday answer, and any real word using exactly the right letters is accepted.
Your score is how fast you climb, plus 15 seconds for each hint. A hint fills in the start of the answer one letter at a time, so you can take just enough help to get moving again. Play unlimited pyramids or try the daily puzzle, which is the same for everyone and comes with a small emoji staircase to share.
Word Pyramid FAQ
Do I have to use every letter?

What if I find a different word than the intended one?
Any real word that uses exactly those letters is accepted, and the next rung builds on your word.
How do hints work?
Each hint reveals the next letter of the answer from the start of the word and adds 15 seconds to your time.
Is there a daily Word Pyramid?
Yes. A new pyramid appears each day and everyone gets the same one.
