About Wordle
Our Wordle game is a five letter word guessing puzzle. You have six tries to find a hidden word. After each guess the tiles change color: green means the letter is in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different spot, and gray means the letter is not in the word at all.
Word guessing games with color clues have roots in older code breaking and word games, and the five letter format became a worldwide daily habit in early 2022. Arcade Pantry offers a free, unlimited version, so you can play as many words as you like, plus a daily puzzle that is the same for everyone.
It is a quick, satisfying vocabulary workout that takes a few minutes per word. The on-screen keyboard shows which letters you have tried, and it works on phones and computers with no download. This game is our own version and is not affiliated with any other word game brand.
Wordle tips and strategy
- Open with a word that uses common letters and two or three vowels, such as CRANE, SLATE or AUDIO.
- Use your second guess to test new letters rather than repeating the yellow ones in new spots.
- Remember that letters can repeat. If you are stuck, consider a double letter like the E in GREET.
- Think about common endings such as ER, ED, LY and common pairs such as CH, SH and TH.
- Watch the keyboard colors. Gray keys are out, so do not use them again.
- When several words fit, pick a guess that splits the options, even if it cannot be the answer.
