How to play Water Sort
Goal
Sort the water so every bottle is either empty or filled with one color.
- 1Tap a bottle to pick it up, then tap another bottle to pour into it.
- 2You can only pour onto the same color or into an empty bottle, and only while there is room.
- 3All the matching layers on top pour together if they fit.
- 4Use Undo, Restart or one extra empty bottle per level when you get stuck.
- 5Finish in as few pours as you can, then move on to the next level.
On a computer
Click bottles, or press 1 to 9 and 0 to pick them. Arrow keys and Enter also work. U undoes and R restarts.
On a phone

Water Sort tips and strategy
- Before you pour, look for a bottle whose top color matches another bottle's top. Those pours are almost always safe.
- Keep at least one bottle empty for as long as you can. An empty bottle is your most valuable space.
- Aim to finish one color at a time. A completed bottle gets a cork and no longer needs attention.
- Pouring a mixed bottle into an empty one rarely helps unless it uncovers a color you need.
- Every pour counts as a move, including ones you undo, so think before you tap.
- Save the extra bottle for real emergencies. You get only one per level.
About Water Sort
Water Sort is a calm color sorting puzzle. Several bottles hold stacked layers of colored water, and a couple of bottles start empty. You pour from one bottle into another until each bottle holds a single color. The rule is simple: you can only pour onto the same color or into an empty bottle, and only as much as fits.
The idea grew out of classic ball sort and tube puzzles that became popular on phones in recent years. Our version is free to play in your browser with no ads between levels. Every level is generated and then checked by a solver before you see it, so each one can be sorted. Easy levels use four to six colors, Medium seven to nine, and Hard ten to twelve, and your level number is saved so you can pick up where you left off.
Colors were picked to stay distinct for most players, and the Symbols switch adds a shape to every color for anyone who finds similar shades hard to tell apart.
Water Sort FAQ
Is every Water Sort level solvable?
Yes. Each level is checked by a solver before it is shown, so there is always at least one way to sort it without the extra bottle.
Why can I not pour into a bottle?
The bottle is either full or its top color is different. You can only pour onto a matching color or into an empty bottle.
What does the Symbols button do?
It draws a small shape on every color, such as a circle, star or triangle, so you can sort by shape if colors are hard to tell apart.
How are moves counted?
Each pour adds one move. Undo and Restart do not take moves away, so the lowest scores come from planning ahead.
Is Water Sort the same as Ball Sort?
They follow the same idea. Ball Sort uses balls in tubes, while Water Sort pours layers of liquid, and in both you group each color in its own container.
