About Memory Match

Memory Match is a card matching game. Sixteen cards lie face down, hiding eight pairs of drawn symbols. You flip two cards per turn. If they match they stay face up, and if not they flip back, so you have to remember where each symbol was.

Matching games like this are often called Concentration or Pairs and have been played with ordinary playing cards for generations. They are a common first game for kids and a gentle workout for adults, because they train short term visual memory.

Our free version tracks your moves and saves your best result, so you can try to finish in fewer turns each time. The cards are large and easy to tap on phones, and a round only takes a couple of minutes.

Because the cards are shuffled every game, you can never memorize a layout ahead of time. That keeps every round fresh. Families often play it together on a tablet by taking turns, with each person flipping two cards and counting their own matches, which turns the solo game into a friendly contest.

Memory Match tips and strategy

  • Flip cards in a steady pattern, such as row by row, so it is easier to remember positions.
  • Say the symbol and its location in your head, for example 'star, top left'.
  • When the first card of a turn is new, use the second flip on another unknown card to learn more.
  • When the first card matches one you have seen, go straight for that remembered card.
  • Do not waste turns re-flipping cards you already know unless you are making a match.
  • A perfect game takes 8 moves, which needs luck. Around 12 to 16 moves is a strong score.
