About Block Drop

Block Drop is our free falling block puzzle, inspired by the classic tile stacking games of the 1980s. Shapes made of four squares fall one at a time. You move and rotate them so they fit together, and every time you fill a full horizontal row it clears and you score points.

The challenge grows as you play. Every ten lines the level goes up and blocks fall faster. Clearing several rows at once is worth much more than clearing them one by one, so good players leave a gap and wait for the long piece.

Block Drop helps you practice quick spatial thinking and planning under light pressure. It has a ghost outline that shows where a piece will land, a preview of the next piece, keyboard controls on desktop, and swipe or button controls on phones. It is free and runs in your browser with nothing to install.

Block Drop also rewards patience. Rushing pieces down often creates holes, while placing them carefully keeps the board clean. Many players find that a steady, calm pace gets them further than speed alone.

Block Drop tips and strategy

  • Keep your stack flat. Bumps and tall towers make it hard to place the next piece.
  • Leave one column empty along a side wall and drop a long straight piece into it to clear four rows at once.
  • Check the next piece preview so you can plan where the current piece should go.
  • Use the ghost outline to line up hard drops precisely and save time at higher levels.
  • Avoid covering holes. A single hole under a block can cost you several rows.
  • Rotate pieces near the top before they fall far, so you have time to fix mistakes.

Block Drop FAQ

Clearing rows scores points, and clearing two, three or four rows at once scores far more per row. Hard drops and soft drops also add a few points.

When does the speed increase?

The level rises every 10 cleared lines, and each level makes the pieces fall faster.

How do I rotate pieces on my phone?

Tap the board to rotate, swipe sideways to move, swipe down quickly to drop, or use the on-screen buttons.

Is Block Drop the same as Tetris?

No. Block Drop is our own free game inspired by classic falling block puzzles. It is not affiliated with any brand.
