How to play Flow Connect
Goal
Connect every pair of matching dots so the pipes fill the entire board.
- 1Drag from a colored dot to the other dot of the same color to draw a pipe.
- 2Pipes cannot cross or branch. Drawing over another pipe cuts it back.
- 3Every square on the board must be covered by a pipe to win.
- 4Drag back along a pipe to shorten it, or tap Undo. Hints draw one correct pipe for 15 seconds.
On a computer
Click and drag with the mouse. U or Ctrl+Z undoes, H gives a hint, R clears the board.
On a phone
Drag with your finger from a dot to its twin.
Play Flow Connect free online. Draw pipes to link each pair of colored dots without crossing, and fill the whole board. 5x5 to 9x9 puzzles plus a daily board.
Flow Connect tips and strategy
- Start with dots on the edges and in the corners. Their pipes have fewer ways to go.
- Two dots that sit next to each other are usually joined directly.
- If a square has only one open neighbor, the pipe passing by must turn into it, so look for those tight spots.
- Pipes that hug the wall often turn out to be right, because they leave room for the others.
- Drawing over another pipe cuts it, and if you pull back, the cut pipe comes back.
- Watch the Fill meter. If every color is linked but the meter is short of 100 percent, some pipe needs to take a longer route.
About Flow Connect
Flow Connect is a pipe drawing puzzle. The board shows pairs of colored dots, and you drag a pipe from each dot to its partner. Pipes cannot cross or branch, and to win the pipes must cover every square of the board. Linking all the colors is only half the job, because the empty squares also have to be filled.
Puzzles like this are often called Flow Free or numberlink puzzles, and they have been a favorite on phones for years. Our free version builds each puzzle from a single random path that winds through every square, then cuts it into colored pieces. A solver then checks the puzzle and adds extra pairs until there is only one way to solve it on most boards. Easy uses 5x5 and 6x6 boards, Medium 7x7 and Hard 8x8 or 9x9.
The glowing pipes, the fill meter and the ring that pops when a pair connects make it a relaxing game to play on a phone or a computer, and the daily board gives everyone the same puzzle each day.
Flow Connect FAQ
Do I have to fill every square?
Yes. To finish a Flow Connect board, every pair must be linked and every square must be covered by a pipe.
Is there only one solution?
Most boards are checked by a solver that keeps adding dots until there is exactly one solution. On the largest boards the solver may run out of time, and then the puzzle has at least one known solution.
How do I fix a pipe?
Drag from any point on the pipe to redraw it from there, drag back along it to shorten it, or use Undo.
What happens when I use a hint?
One full pipe from the solution is drawn for you and 15 seconds are added to your time.
Is Flow Connect the same as Flow Free?
It follows the same well known rules, with our own puzzles, colors and daily board. It is free to play in your browser.
