How to play Solitaire
Goal
Build all four suits from ace to king on the foundations.
- 1Move cards between the seven columns, building down in alternating colors (a red 6 on a black 7).
- 2Only a king, or a run that starts with a king, can go into an empty column.
- 3Tap the stock to turn cards onto the waste. When it runs out, tap it again to turn the waste back over.
- 4Send aces to the foundations, then build each suit up from ace to king.
- 5When every card is face up, tap Auto-finish to play out the rest.
On a computer
Drag cards, or click a card and then click its destination. Double-click sends a card to its best spot. D draws, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, H shows a hint.
On a phone
Drag cards with your finger, or tap a card and then tap where it goes. Double-tap sends a card to the foundation or the best column.

Solitaire tips and strategy
- Turn over face-down cards early. Most games are decided by how fast you free the hidden cards in the bigger columns.
- Play from the tableau before the stock when you can. Waste cards wait for you, but buried cards do not move on their own.
- Do not empty a column unless a king is ready to move in. An empty column only accepts a king.
- When choosing between two cards to move, pick the one from the column with more face-down cards.
- In draw 3, count where useful cards sit in the stock. Moving one card from the waste changes which cards come up next time.
About Solitaire
Solitaire, also known as Klondike or patience, is the card game most people picture when they hear the word. You deal 28 cards into seven columns, with only the bottom card of each face up, and keep the other 24 in a stock. The goal is to move every card onto four foundations, one per suit, building up from ace to king.
Klondike became famous in the late 1800s and spread worldwide when it came bundled with home computers. Part of its charm is the mix of luck and planning. Some deals cannot be won, but careful players win far more often than hasty ones, because the order you uncover cards matters a lot.
Our version plays in any browser with smooth drag and drop, tap controls for phones, unlimited undo, hints and an auto-finish button. Draw 1 is the relaxed version. Draw 3 turns three cards at a time and is a real test. There is also a daily deal that every player gets, so you can compare scores with friends.
Solitaire FAQ
What is the difference between draw 1 and draw 3?
In draw 1 you turn one card from the stock at a time and can reach every card. In draw 3 you turn three and can only play the top one, which makes the game much harder.
Is every game of Solitaire winnable?
No. A small share of Klondike deals cannot be won however you play, and more are lost to unlucky choices. Undo lets you test ideas and back out of dead ends.
How does scoring work?
You get 10 points for each card sent to a foundation, 5 for moving a waste card to a column and 5 for turning over a hidden card. You lose points for recycling the stock and a few points as time passes. Fast wins earn a time bonus.
Is there a daily Solitaire game?
Yes. The daily deal is the same for every player and uses draw 1, so you can compare your score and time with friends.
Can I play Solitaire on my phone?
Yes. The table fits phone screens, cards use a large index so they stay readable, and you can drag or tap to move.
