Five Dice tips and strategy
- Aim for three of each number in the upper section. That adds up to exactly 63 and earns the bonus.
- Fours, fives and sixes count for more, so a pair of sixes is usually worth chasing early.
- Save Chance for a bad turn rather than using it early on a decent roll.
- If a turn goes badly, scoring zero in Ones or in Five of a kind can cost less than wasting a better box.
- With four in a row on the first roll, roll for the large straight. You have two tries to fill the gap.
- Keep an eye on how many turns remain. Late in the game, take sure points over long shots.
About Five Dice
Five Dice is a classic dice game in the style of Yahtzee. Each turn you roll five dice up to three times, holding the ones you like between rolls. Then you score the result in one of 13 boxes on your sheet. Every box can only be used once, so the game is about deciding what to chase and when to settle.
The upper half of the sheet scores ones through sixes. If those six boxes add up to 63 or more, you earn a 35 point bonus. The lower half rewards combinations: three or four of a kind, a full house, small and large straights, chance and the big one, five of a kind for 50 points. Every extra five of a kind after that adds a 100 point bonus.
Play solo to chase a high score, take on a computer opponent that weighs its options before every roll, or pass the device between two players. The daily game gives everyone the same seeded dice, so the best plan wins rather than the luckiest roll.
Five Dice FAQ
Is Five Dice the same as Yahtzee?
It follows the same well known rules: 13 boxes, three rolls per turn, an upper bonus and a five of a kind bonus. Yahtzee is a trademarked name, so we call it Five Dice.
How does the upper bonus work?
If your Ones through Sixes add up to 63 or more, you get 35 extra points.
What happens if I roll five of a kind twice?
If your Five of a kind box already holds 50, each extra one is worth a 100 point bonus. It can also be scored as a full house or straight for full points.
How good is the computer player?
It looks at every way to hold the dice and picks the one with the best expected result, so it plays a solid game and will beat careless players.
Can two people play on one device?
Yes. Choose 2 players and pass the phone or share the screen. The sheet shows both scores side by side.
