How to play Golf Solitaire
Goal
Clear every card from the seven columns, or leave as few as you can.
- 1The 35 cards in the seven columns are all face up. Only the bottom card of each column can be played.
- 2Play a card onto the waste if it is one rank higher or lower than the waste card, in any suit.
- 3When nothing fits, tap the stock to turn a new waste card.
- 4In Classic, aces and kings do not connect. Easy mode lets a king and an ace follow each other.
- 5The round ends when the stock is empty and no card fits. Your score is the cards left, so lower is better.
On a computer
Click a bottom card to play it, or press 1 to 7 for that column. Press D or click the stock to draw. H shows a hint.
On a phone
Tap a bottom card to play it onto the waste. Tap the stock when nothing fits.

Golf Solitaire tips and strategy
- Look for long chains before you play. A run of five or six plays is better than a single card.
- When two cards fit, play the one that opens up a useful card underneath it.
- Try to keep both directions alive. If the waste is a 7, a play to 8 or to 6 may lead to very different chains.
- Save kings and aces for when nothing else fits in the classic rules, since they end a chain.
- Do not draw from the stock while you still have a play, unless that play wrecks a longer chain.
- Columns with many cards left deserve attention early, since they are the hardest to clear at the end.
About Golf Solitaire
Golf Solitaire is a quick, bright solitaire game where you try to clear seven columns of five face-up cards. A single waste pile sits below them. You may play the bottom card of any column onto the waste if it is exactly one rank higher or lower, in any suit. When nothing fits, you turn a new card from the stock.
The game is called Golf because, like the sport, a lower score is better. Each card left in the columns counts as one stroke. If you clear the whole layout, the cards still in your stock count as minus points, so a great round finishes below zero.
Golf is a good pick for a short break, since a round takes only a few minutes. The classic rules do not let kings and aces connect, which makes runs end at the top and bottom. The easy mode lets the sequence wrap from king to ace and back, so longer chains are possible.
Golf Solitaire FAQ
Why is Golf Solitaire scored like golf?
Each card left in the layout counts as one point, so lower scores are better. Clearing every column turns your unused stock cards into a negative score.
Can I play a queen on a king?
Yes, a queen and a king are one rank apart. What the classic rules forbid is connecting a king and an ace.
What does the easy mode change?
It lets kings and aces follow each other, so a chain can go Q, K, A, 2 and keep going.
How often can Golf Solitaire be cleared?
Only a minority of deals clear completely under classic rules, so a low score is already a good result.
Is there a daily Golf deal?
Yes. Everyone gets the same classic deal each day, so you can compare how many cards you left.
