Bridges
Link the islands with bridges that never cross.
How to play Bridges
Goal
Connect all the islands into one network so each island has as many bridges as its number.
- 1Bridges run straight across or down between two islands.
- 2Two islands can share one or two bridges, never more.
- 3Bridges cannot cross each other or pass over an island.
- 4Every island must reach every other one through the bridges.
On a computer
Click the water between two islands to cycle 1, 2 and 0 bridges. Tab and Enter also work. U undoes.
On a phone
Tap the water between two islands to add a bridge. Tap again for a double, once more to remove.
Play Bridges free online, the Hashiwokakero logic puzzle. Connect numbered islands with single or double bridges, no crossings. Unique solutions and a daily.
Bridges tips and strategy
- An island with 8 must have double bridges in all four directions. A 6 in a corner works the same way.
- An island showing 1 can never be the only link between two parts of the board, unless that part is just the pair.
- Two islands of 1 next to each other usually cannot connect, or they would be cut off from everything else.
- Look for islands with fewer neighbors than usual. Their bridges are easier to pin down.
- When a bridge is certain, add it right away. It often blocks crossings and settles other islands.
- Check that everything connects before the last few bridges.
About Bridges
Bridges is a logic puzzle played on a sea dotted with numbered islands. Draw straight bridges between islands so that each island ends up with exactly as many bridges as its number. Two islands can be joined by one or two bridges, bridges can never cross, and in the end every island must be connected to all the others.
The puzzle is known in Japan as Hashiwokakero, which means build bridges, and it is often shortened to Hashi. It was made popular by the puzzle publisher Nikoli, whose magazines helped spread many pencil puzzles around the world. The best Hashi puzzles have a single solution that you can reach by logic alone, with no guessing.
Every puzzle here is generated fresh and checked by a solver that confirms there is exactly one answer. Islands turn green when they have the right number of bridges and red when they have too many. You can undo, clear the board, or take a hint that adds a correct bridge for a small time penalty.
