Tips for 6 letter word games
- Lead with vowels. 824 of our 6,667 6 letter words use three or more different vowels, and only ADIEUS, AROUSE, AUDIOS, GOALIE, GUINEA, HOAGIE, OPAQUE and OPIATE use 4. Common vowel-heavy words like AROUND, ENOUGH, SEASON, UNITED and COURSE test several vowels in one go.
- Know the busiest letters. E appears in 65% of 6 letter words, S in 46% and R in 41%. Next come A, I, T, N and L.
- Watch the start. S is by far the most common first letter (880 words, 13%), followed by C (570) and B (471).
- Watch the end. 27% of 6 letter words end in S, mostly plurals. D (17%) and E (11%) come next. The most common two letter endings are -ED, -ER and -ES.
- Expect repeats. 51% of 6 letter words repeat a letter, like PEOPLE, REALLY and BEFORE. If you are stuck with few letters left, try doubling one.
- Y counts as a vowel sometimes. 8 words in our list have no A, E, I, O or U at all, such as CRYPTS, FLYBYS, NYMPHS, PSYCHS and RHYTHM.
