How to use the word finder
- Pick the word length, from 3 to 10 letters, or choose Any.
- Type the letters you know in their exact spots in the known letters boxes. These are your green tiles.
- Add letters in the word whose spot you don't know yet, and tap the spots they are not in. These are your yellow tiles.
- Type the letters not in the word. These are your gray tiles.
- Open starts with, ends with, contains for more filters, then tap any word in the list to copy it. Use Copy link to share your search.

Tips for finding the right word
- Add every gray letter. Excluded letters cut the list faster than anything else. One guess with five gray letters can remove most of the candidates.
- Use yellow positions. A yellow letter tells you two things: it is in the word, and it is not in that spot. Tap the spot number so the finder drops those words too.
- Repeated letters count. If a letter is green or yellow and also gray in the same guess, the word has exactly that many copies of it. The Word Guess helper handles this for you.
- Pick a word that splits the list. When many words are left, guess one that tests several of the open letters at once, even if it can't be the answer.

What is a word finder?
A word finder lists every word that fits what you know: its length, letters in exact spots, letters it contains and letters it doesn't. Ours searches about 54,000 English words and lists everyday words first.
How do I find 5 letter words with certain letters?
Set the length to 5 and type the letters under letters in the word. If you know where a letter goes, type it in that box under known letters instead. The list updates as you type.
Can it help with Word Guess and other five letter word games?
Yes. Open the Word Guess helper, type each guess and tap its tiles to match the colors you got. The helper turns green, yellow and gray tiles into filters, including tricky repeated letters.
How do I find words that start with or end in certain letters?
Open starts with, ends with, contains and type the letters. Combine them with a length, or set the length to Any to see every word from 2 to 15 letters.
Which dictionary does the word finder use?
The same English word list as our word games, about 54,000 words from the open source SCOWL project. About 10,000 of them are marked as common words, and those are listed first.
